Department of Physics mourns death of our senior, Stephen Stec

January 17, 2023

It is with a heavy heart that we share with you the passing of our senior Stephen Stec, who died in an automobile accident Saturday near Marshall, Texas. He was from Conway, S.C.

A Presidential Scholar, Stephen was majoring in astrophysics and was very engaged in his academic community through course work, research with the CMS experiment at CERN, and student organizations such as the Alpha Lambda Delta National Honor Society, the Astronomy Club, and the Society of Physics Students. He felt a calling to teach and perform research at the university level. As a freshman, he was a resident of Martin Hall. His parents described Stephen as an extrovert who never met a stranger.

As his family makes funeral arrangements, Baylor Spiritual Life will hold a Gathering at 4 p.m. Thursday, Jan. 19, at Elliston Chapel by East Village for support and prayer for students, staff and faculty connected to Stephen.

We will have Stephen’s family, his roommates, classmates, friends and faculty in our prayers at this very difficult time and we would appreciate your prayers too.

Please find his obituary page here.
